Academy unit · Grade 7–9

Marketing — Senior Phase

Nine weeks on clarity in public — one sentence a stranger can repeat, proof instead of adjectives, and channels where Johannesburg parents already are. Not a personal-brand lifestyle course.

The one idea

Marketing is making the right people understand your offer — not building a stage nobody visits.

Marketing here is not a content calendar copied from California. It is the skill of making the right people understand an offer they could pay for.

The mechanic: One Sentence Test

Read your sentence to someone who does not know you. If they cannot repeat who it is for, what changes, and what to do next, rewrite before you post.

The ten-pointer: catching your own vagueness before the public does.

Harmonic state in the room

Posting from chaos produces hype. The unit opens each Build slice with the same PSCA reset from the live day — then writes from composure, not adrenaline.

The scoring: One Sentence Test

If a stranger cannot repeat your offer after one sentence, the marketing failed. Learners hunt vague claims, missing proof, and feature lists with no outcome. Highlight the fix in writing.

Catch Points
A post where you cannot tell who it is for 1
No next step — price, time, place, or action hidden behind "DM me" 3
Adjectives with no proof — "quality, fast, professional" only 5
A sentence rewritten so a grade-7 could copy it accurately 5
Catching your own draft before posting — read aloud, fixed line one 10

The 9 weeks

One module per week. Each runs the same four parts: a short video, a task with a checkable answer, the scored round, and one slice of the thing they are building.

  1. 0 Setup and rules Marketing is clarity shipped in public. The proof board and safeguarding
  2. 1 Positioning in one breath Who, outcome, difference — before any logo
  3. 2 Proof, not adjectives Strong claims carry evidence within arm's reach
  4. 3 The WhatsApp status One screen, one action, no hype wall
  5. 4 Channel fit Go where the buyer already is
  6. 5 Offers and bundles Simple beats clever — one thing sold clearly beats five things muddled
  7. 6 Reputation and recovery When something goes wrong in public, composure is the marketing
  8. 7 Honest measurement Count replies, bookings, repeat customers — not likes alone
  9. 8 Making it real One campaign week, one proof board, one sentence test passed

What they hand in

A one-page campaign plan, three proof artefacts (screenshots with names cropped, tallies, or photos of work), and a before/after sentence rewrite.

Questions about Marketing — Senior Phase

Is this "build your personal brand on Instagram"?

No. One sentence, one proof, one channel that fits. Plenty of learners never need a public account to pass this unit.

What is the ten-pointer?

Catching your own draft before posting — reading line one aloud and fixing vagueness before the world sees it.

Does this require spending on ads?

No paid ads in the pilot. Measurement is replies and bookings you can count on paper.
